What is SWOP^®?

SWOP^® stands for “Specifications for Web Offset Publications,” a standard that was established by the Magazine Publisher Association (MPA) over three decades ago to govern standard ink and dot gain tolerances for the web offset industry. Today, SWOP^® ensures that the printing industry adapts to new technologies without compromising quality.

Why do I need a SWOP^® proof?

If you want true, accurate color, a SWOP^® calibrated proof is far less expensive than a reprint and worth the modest expense. SWOP^® proof reads the dot density for each color on the proof and gives the printer an accurate reading to match. And a SWOP^® proof also eliminates the guesswork for both you and your printer, as any potential problems are identified when we rip the proof. Many publications will not take responsibility for files sent without a proof.

How soon can I get my SWOP^® proof?

If you file is received by New Vision by 3:00 p.m. PST (6:00 p.m. EST) your SWOP^® proof will ship the same day. If your file is received after 3:00 p.m. PST, your SWOP^® proof will be sent out in order of receipt the next day. In either case, you should receive your SWOP^® proof no later than 48 hours after placing your order if Overnight shipping is selected.
